
Celebrating our Faith - September 2023
Sept. 1 & 3: Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish in Austin will kick off their Jamaica on Sept. 1 from 5 to 9 p.m. Activities include dinner and games. Festivities continue Sept. 3 from noon to 10 p.m. Activities include food, games, a silent auction and live music. Please bring a lawn chair. Admission is free.
Sept. 2: On the first Saturday of each month, Father Kevin Rai will lead Marian Mornings from 8 a.m. to noon at St. Elizabeth Parish in Pflugerville. The mini retreat will begin with Mass and will include a teaching, prayer time, silence and time for the sacrament of reconciliation.
Sept. 2: St. John Neumann Parish in Austin will host a First Saturday Mass for Vocations followed by a Holy Hour for Vocations at 8:45 a.m.
Sept. 3: St. John Parish in Fayetteville will host its Picnic beginning with a polka Mass at 10 a.m. Barbecue pork and sausage will be served at the St. John Recreation Hall at 10:30 a.m. A country auction will begin at 1:30 p.m. There will be games for all ages and music throughout the afternoon. Sept. 3: Sts. Cyril and Methodius Parish in Granger will host its annual Bazaar from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. in the parish hall at 500 West Davilla in Granger. All are invited to begin the day with Mass at 10 a.m. A barbecue and sausage dinner begins at 11 a.m.; all plates are $15. Activities include a live auction at 1:30 p.m. and games for all ages beginning at noon. There will be a dance from 6 to 10 p.m.; tickets are $10 per person. Details: www.sscmchurch.org.

Sept. 9: The India Catholic Association of Central Texas will host Taste of India from 5:30 to 10 p.m. at St. William Parish Evangelization Center in Round Rock. The evening will offer a cultural experience of food and entertainment for all. Proceeds benefit a low-income housing complex for very poor working women in Mumbai, India, and the Community First! Sept. 10: Sts. Cyril and Methodius in Marak will host its annual Picnic on the parish grounds. The day begins with Mass at 10:15 a.m. Home-fried chicken and sausage plates will be served beginning at 11 a.m.; plates are $15 each. Games for all ages begin at 11:30 a.m., and the auction begins at 2:30 p.m.
Sept. 14: Angels Among Us will be presented from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Cedarbrake Catholic Retreat Center in Temple. Spend the day learning more about the angels among us and their presence in our lives. The retreat will be led by Mary Pomeroy, spiritual director and retreat leader. Cost is $45. Sept. 17: Holy Trinity Parish in Corn Hill will host its annual Bazaar on the parish grounds. Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Barbecue and fried chicken will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. (adults $15/children $7). Sept. 23: The 32nd annual Red Mass will be celebrated at 5 p.m. at St. Ignatius Martyr Parish in Austin. The Mass invokes the Holy Spirit to assist those who study or are engaged in the administration of justice. After the Mass, a ticketed reception, dinner and program featuring Amy Coney Barrett, associate justice of the Supreme Court, will be held. Details: www.austindiocese.org/red-mass.
Sept. 24: St. Martin Parish in Tours will host its annual Picnic from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Fried chicken and sausage plates will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Plates are $14 each (drive-through plates will be available from 11 to 12:30). Other activities include a live auction, children's games, a country store and horseshoes.
Sept. 28: Cedarbrake on the Road will be held from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at St. Thomas More Parish in Austin. Father Harry Dean will share insights on the Eucharist from a few saints, and Brian Egan will share Scripture passages about Our Lord who is truly present in the Eucharist. Sept. 29: The Blue Mass, a Mass of thanksgiving for law enforcement officers and first responders, will be celebrated by Bishop Joe Vásquez at 10 a.m. at St. Louis King of France Parish in Austin.
Oct. 1: St. Mary Parish in Hearne will host its Homecoming and Fall Festival. The day will begin with a bilingual Mass at 10 a.m. followed by a spaghetti dinner at 11 a.m. Activities include live and silent auctions as well as games for all ages.
Oct. 7: Contemplative Prayer and Meditation: A Sacred Journey will be offered from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Cedarbrake Catholic Retreat Center in Temple. Thomas Merton and other spiritual contemporaries reopened the door of the contemplative path to all Christians. Cost is $45. Details: austindiocese.org/cedarbrake or (254) 780-2436.
Oct. 8: Church of the Visitation in Westphalia will host its 116th Picnic on the parish grounds. There will be a meal, live auction, music, baked goods, crafts and games. The Little School Museum will be open and the new church is complete and open to all. All are welcome!
Oct. 13-15: A Celtic Spirituality Retreat will be offered at Cedarbrake Catholic Retreat Center in Temple. Sister Veronica Cahill of the Holy Spirit and Mary Immaculate Order, originally from Dublin, will direct this retreat. Oct. 15: St. Paul Parish in Smithville and Sts. Peter and Paul Mission in Kovar will host their 2023 Fall Festival on the grounds of St. Paul Parish in Smithville. The day begins with Mass at 10 a.m. Barbecue chicken and sausage will be served at 11 a.m. All plates include dessert and are $12 each. Activities include a live auction, silent auction and live music.
