Retreat and Reflect - November 2022

 


Nov. 8-9: Evenings of reflection on Servant of God Sister Thea Bowman will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. at Holy Cross Parish in Austin. Sister Bowman taught young people about the joy of being Christian, she challenged her church to accept her as “fully Black and fully Catholic,” she embraced her suffering with a willing spirit and she called all to a living faith. This evening will share the story of the granddaughter of enslaved persons who converted to Catholicism and later joined the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration. Nov. 14: Journey into the Peace of Christ: Abiding in Truth, Beauty, and Goodness will be presented at Cedarbrake Catholic Retreat Center in Temple. The meaning and purpose of our lives is all too often obscured by our busyness, and the peace of Christ remains elusive. Come away to abide in truth, beauty and goodness as Deacon Dan Lupo, a trained spiritual director, offers prayer, music, Scripture and stories of faith inviting us into the peace of Christ. Nov. 18-20: A Silent Ignatian retreat for women, based on the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola, will be held at Cedarbrake Catholic Retreat Center in Temple. This retreat is offered by the priests of Miles Christi, a religious order devoted to the laity’s sanctification. Throughout the centuries, the spiritual exercises have become known as an excellent means of sanctification, highly praised by popes and saints. There will be spiritual talks, Eucharistic Adoration, daily Mass and the rosary will be prayed. The cost is $300 for a single room. Dec. 1: An Advent Dinner will be offered at Cedarbrake Catholic Retreat Center in Temple. The evening will include wine and cheese plus dinner followed by an Advent reflection by Father Harry Dean. Dec. 2-4: A Silent Advent Retreat will be offered at Cedarbrake Catholic Retreat Center in Temple. This weekend retreat will ponder the mystery of “the word made flesh.” (Jn 1:14) There will be two reflections, Mass on Saturday and Sunday, Eucharistic Adoration and the sacrament of reconciliation.
