Open the eyes of my heart, Lord

As I was watching the Super Bowl, I kept looking at the crowd thinking wouldn’t it be great if that many people were in one place for Mass? Wouldn’t it be great to bring 60,000 people together around the Eucharist instead of around a football? Then I remembered the National Eucharistic Congress that is coming up in July and I realized the Catholic Church in the U.S. is going to do just that!

On July 17–21 Catholics from across the U.S. will gather at Lucas Oil Stadium (capacity 67,000) in Indianapolis for the 10th National Eucharistic Congress. Organizers are working hard to fill the stadium because the line-up of speakers is amazing! I am very much looking forward to being there in person to learn and worship and to be transformed. In this month’s interview, Bishop Joe Vásquez tells us all about the congress (see pages 4-5).

The Diocese of Austin still has some tickets available for those who would like to attend the NEC. Visit www.austindiocese.org/eucharistic-congress for more information on this great experience. May God continue to open our hearts to his True Presence among us.
