The Holy Spirit fills in when memory fails
Do you remember the name of your confirmation saint? When a friend asked me several months ago to be her confirmation sponsor, it got me thinking about my own confirmation (which was more than 35 years ago).
Honestly, I don’t remember a whole lot. I even had my confirmation saint wrong in my head. I thought I had chosen St. Joan of Arc all those years ago because I specifically remember writing a paper about her for my English class. However, when I looked back at photos, I realized that I chose St. Jane Frances de Chantal.
This sent me on a quest to learn more about her (I realize that I had already done this in high school, but my memory fails me), and in doing so I found a new (old) saintly hero.
As a church, we are blessed with many, many saints who serve as great models of faith for us. I am so thankful to Mary Lou Gibson who has been writing about the saints for the Catholic Spirit for more than three decades. She has a gift for making the saints approachable and relatable.
Thank you Holy Spirit for seeing fit for me to reconnect with my confirmation saint. St. Jane Frances de Chantal, pray for us. And may the Holy Spirit continue to inspire us.
