Deacon Isaiah Minke will be ordained to the priesthood June 6 at St. William Parish in Round Rock. He grew up in College Station and received the sacraments of initiation at St. Thomas Aquinas Parish. The parish served “as a true home for my early stages of faith, and an ongoing community to come back to over my seminary years,” he said.
He began to seriously consider the priesthood when he was 17, which led him to discernment groups and retreats.
“When I finally visited a seminary, I had a profound moment of prayer before Christ in Eucharistic adoration,” Deacon Minke said. “That moment gave me the peace and certainty to take the next step to seminary.”
During his journey to the priesthood, he went on a mission trip to Honduras with the Missioners of Christ, which helped him expand his comfort zone.
“It got me more comfortable preaching and ministering in Spanish, and the experience of venturing out to a foreign country, literally hiking over mountains and valleys to preach the Gospel, gave me a powerful picture of the missionary nature of the priesthood,” he said.
Deacon Minke said he is especially looking forward to “growing into that spiritual fatherhood a priest is meant to have; that way of nourishing and guiding others in the Gospel, which grounds everything a priest does.”
After the ordination, Father Minke will celebrate a Mass of Thanksgiving on June 7 at 11 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Parish in College Station.
