Saints and Scholars, the annual celebration of Catholic schools in the Diocese of Austin, was held Jan. 22 at the Hyatt Regency Town Lake in Austin. During the evening, Bishop Joe Vásquez and Superintendent Misty Poe recognized the unsung heroes who work diligently and faithfully in the 20 Catholic schools in the Diocese of Austin. Joan Wagner, the former principal of Holy Family Catholic School and St. Dominic Savio Catholic High School in Austin, was presented with the 2022 C.J. Dutch Kellerman Memorial Leadership Award for her lifelong commitment to Catholic education. The keynote speaker for the evening was Katie Prejean McGrady, a wife, mother and award-winning author. More than 550 people attended the celebration, and $110,000 was raised for tuition assistance programs in the Catholic schools.
