Thankful to carry out the mission of Catholic Charities

Each year as Thanksgiving approaches, I take time to reflect on the year and all that I have to be thankful for. This year is especially meaningful as Catholic Charities of Central Texas celebrates its 25th anniversary, and I complete my 10th year with the mission. My heart is filled with gratitude for all of those who have been a part of this journey and those who will help us carry out our mission for the next 25 years.

For our staff

You are the hands and feet of Christ. You give of yourselves day in and day out to provide families with the tools they need to overcome difficult challenges. You treat our clients with dignity and respect, and you go above and beyond to make sure they have what they need to thrive. I see clients walk into our office in despair and leave with hope for a brighter tomorrow. I am thankful that you choose to share your gifts and talents with Catholic Charities.

For our donors and volunteers

You are the backbone of our mission. Your support fuels our programs and services and allows us to say yes to our neighbors who seek our help. You generously give to better the lives of people you will never meet. I am thankful that you entrust Catholic Charities with your time, talent and treasure.

For our parish and community partners

We are better together. We leverage our unique strengths and capabilities to respond to the diverse needs of our community. I am thankful to have you as companions on the journey to eliminate poverty in Central Texas.

For our clients

Thank you for the privilege of accompanying you through your joys and your struggles. You are strong, you are resilient, you are valued. I am humbled and thankful for the trust you place in us as you work to achieve your hopes and dreams. You are not alone.

For our freedom and those who fight for it

We are honored to serve our veterans, military women and men, and their families through our St. Michael’s Veteran program. Because of you, we can help families fulfill their American dreams and engage fully in our community. I am thankful for all you have sacrificed so that we may enjoy life, liberty and happiness.

For our faith

We see so much beauty at Catholic Charities, but we also see the pain and suffering of our neighbors. Through it all, our faith in God guides us one step at a time. I am thankful to work in a place where our faith is shared and celebrated.

For the Eucharist

When we gather at the table of the Eucharist, we are united as sisters and brothers in Christ. We receive a taste of that perfect unity that we strive to achieve, where all people thrive in their God-given gifts and dignity. The Eucharist feeds us in our work at Catholic Charities so that we may be sent on mission to spread Christ’s love to everyone we encounter.

This Thanksgiving, I am thankful that God has called me to Catholic Charities of Central Texas and that I have the privilege to see him every day in the faces of the clients we serve.
