The Call: God is never outdone in generosity

The Diocese of Austin has begun a new video series entitled The Call, in which priests who serve in the diocese share their experience in hearing God’s call to the priesthood.
The series launched in December with a video featuring Father Greg Gerhart, the diocesan director of Vocations. He first heard God’s call during a time of silent prayer while at a summer camp when he was 14.
“It was only five minutes, but in those five minutes the Holy Spirit came over me, gave me a deep peace, a great joy, and a burning desire to give him my whole life,” Father Gerhart said.
He admits that for many years he wanted the call to go away, but during his senior year of college he realized the only way he would be truly fulfilled was through the priesthood.
“By trusting God and giving ourselves to him, we receive so much more than anything we could ever give up … God is never outdone in generosity,” Father Gerhart said.
“So if someone is considering whether God might be calling them to be a priest or a religious sister and they're worried … about the sacrifice that it might entail, that's OK. Speak to the Lord from your heart about it. But know as well that he is abundantly generous with us,” he said.
The Call can be found on YouTube, and the videos are shared on the Diocese of Austin Facebook page.
