Scott Fyall: God’s plan is far greater than mine

Deacon Scott Fyall will be ordained to the priesthood June 14 at St. Vincent de Paul Parish in Austin. His family moved to Dripping Springs when he was 4, and he is thankful for the support his home parish of St. Martin de Porres Parish in Dripping Springs has given him throughout his life.

“From a young age people encouraged me to be a priest, but I always ignored their advice; I thought I had my own plan,” he said. “I eventually realized: God’s plan is far greater than mine. What fulfilled me more than my own ambitions was the joy I found in my faith and serving in the church, especially in [Rite (now Order) of Christian Initiation of Adults].”

One of his most memorable moments along his journey to the priesthood was giving the reflection for his mother’s vigil the night before her funeral.

“The Holy Spirit gave me the grace not only to get through it, but to speak from the heart. It’s a moment of preaching that I will never forget, and I know my mom was praying for me the whole time, just as she is praying for me now,” he said.

Deacon Fyall is most looking forward to celebrating Mass after his ordination.

“Jesus is our greatest friend, and it is an incredible privilege to provide people the opportunity to enjoy communion with him, and to adore him in the Blessed Sacrament,” he said.
